What would it be like to have a garden with flora highly perfumed for flowers? I can almost see smiling faces and nodding heads of those who already have magnolia plants on their gardens.

Yes, magnolia flowers are very fragrant that you don’t need air fresheners any more as you can smell them from a distance. Would you like to have natural air freshener in your own homes? Well if you do, let us find out what could be done, but first let’s familiarize with the plant.

Magnolias are considered to be one of the most primitive of all flowering plants, which have a group of over a hundred species of trees and large shrubs in the subfamily of Magnolioodeae of the family Magnoiaceae.

Magnolia flowers have typically showy, well scented that come in shades of white, pink, green, yellow, or purple. But did you know magnolia flowers are neither pollinated by bees or butterflies?

Hmm, if that is the case then what does? Actually, it is the beetles that typically pollinate magnolia flowers.

Interestingly, magnolia flowers do not produce nectar, although they generate large amount of pollen. Due to the abundance of pollen, beetles are having a good time consuming them for food.

Another fascinating characteristic of magnolia is its fruits. The flowers are followed by, like the blossom itself, showy fruits in red and pink colors that display red, orange, or pink seeds each of which hangs from the fruit by a slim strand.

You can plant magnolias in different soils and climates, but they are usually associated with moist soils in varied deciduous and coniferous woods. This kind of foliage has been utilized for timber and even for medicinal purposes.

However, the interesting magnolia flowers with irresistible fragrance, gorgeous large leaves, eye catching fruits, and plant forms in general are the main reasons why many people opt to cultivate magnolia in the first place besides the fact that they are easy to grow and relatively pest free.

Most of them are evergreen and stay pretty all throughout the year, making them perfect touch on your backyard or front yard. If you prefer smaller shrubs for your garden, they are available as well. Whatever your preferences, there are classes of magnolias that best suit to your liking.

The best time to plant magnolia may differ according to the class of the plant. For example, evergreen magnolias, which include southern magnolia, Magnolia grandiflora and sweetbay magnolia, and Magnolia Virginian are most preferred to be planted in early spring, while deciduous magnolias are best planted in autumn or early spring.

In the southern part, autumn is the better time to consider planting magnolias where as northern gardeners choose spring.

You might find this information helpful if you want to see magnolia flowers blossoming from their plant, if it survives. Additionally, add some mulch after planting to control the condition of soil temperatures and moisture.

An American song, Wildwood Flower, best known through the performances by the Carter family, bears the original title of “I’ll Twine ‘Mid The Ringlets.”

It was said the song was written in 1860 with words credited to Maud Irving while Joseph Philbrick Webster being responsible for the music.

The tune was utilized by Woody Guthrie, a folk artist strongly noted for his identification with the ordinary man, for the verses of his track “The Sinking of the Reuben James.”

Before Wildwood Flower made noise in the airwaves, it was originally intended for parlor games. However, it went through some minor twists especially when the Carter family recorded it.

They were a group centered on country genre that made a large impact in the 1960’s. It consisted of Alvin Pleasant Delaney Carter together with his wife, Sara Dougherty Carter who performed with either her autoharp or guitar.

There was also Maybelle Addington Carter on guitar as well who was married to Ezra Carter, the brother of Alvin Pleasant. All of them were born and raised in the southwestern coast of Virginia. It was there that they were introduced to rigid harmonies of mountain gospel.

There are also other variations of Wildwood Flower such as the rendition by Iris Dement. She is a country and folk artist who composed about her daily mundane experiences in simple language.

It was in 1992 that her first album “Infamous Angel” was released. It explored on themes such as religious skepticism as well as in accepting apologies for human being’s frailty. Her second album “My Life” was launched in the market two years after.

It was there that she received a Grammy Award for “Best Contemporary Folk or Country Album” category. In 1996, her third album “The Way I Should” was out. It tackled on fierce political topics like sexual abuse and government policy, among others.

Oh, I’ll twine with my mingles and waving black hair
With the roses so red and the lilies so fair
And the myrtle so bright with the emerald hue
The pale and the leader and eyes look like blue.

Oh I’ll dance, I will sing and my laugh shall be gay
I will charm every heart, in his crown I will sway
When I woke from my dreaming, my idol was clay
All portion of love had all flown away.

Oh he taught me to love him and promised to love
And to cherish me over all others above
How my heart is now wondering no misery can tell
He’s left me no warning, no words of farewell.

Oh, he taught me to love him and called me his
That was blooming to cheer him through life’s dreary hour
Oh, I long to see him and regret the dark hour
He’s gone and neglected this pale wildwood flower.

So you are finally done arranging everything for your wedding – from what flowers to choose to catering services. Now, you’re down to the question: Where can you find sources of flowers in your locality?

You have many options. You can try the farmer’s market for instance. In the summer season, many cities open farmer’s markets where fresh flowers are sold in large quantities.

A large selection of flowers are put in display and all you have to do is check the prices and then you’ll be on your way to getting the flowers that you want. Just one obvious disadvantage, however, is that farmer’s market are seasonal.

So if you have decided on an early spring or late autumn wedding, you are not likely going to find any farmer’s market open to selling you fresh flowers.

Another good source of wedding flowers is your local grocery store. Many grocer’s markets have their own floral department with a good selection of flowers, whether fresh, bouquets, or artificial ones like those made of silk that look very realistic.

Buying flowers from the grocery store is a good idea if your wedding is small and intimate. You won’t need a lot of flowers and the grocery store is just the place to buy flowers in small scale.

You can also mail-order your wedding flowers. Log on to the Internet and look for online shops that offer flower delivery service. Online floral shops are especially recommended if the theme of your wedding is Hawaiian or something equally exotic.

But note that online flower delivery services often come with shipping expenses, not to mention worries over the condition of the flowers when they arrive.

So where does that leave you? Not to worry though. If farmer’s markets, grocery stores, and mail-order flowers are out of the question, you have one last option at your disposal – wholesale flowers.

Wholesale flower markets are an excellent choice if you are planning a huge wedding. Unlike fresh flowers sold in farmer’s markets, you can purchase wholesale flowers from wholesale markets whenever possible.

What’s more, vendors of wholesale flowers can be found almost everywhere, especially in large metropolitan areas.

The great thing about wholesale flowers is the price. If you want a large wedding but worried about budget, then wholesale flowers are exactly what you need. Wholesale flowers are available at bargain prices. There’s just one catch – you have to buy them in bulk.

But that shouldn’t be a problem for you, especially if the wedding of your dreams is an event where almost everyone you know is invited.

Large weddings, medium-sized weddings, even small weddings may benefit from buying wholesale flowers. After all, when it comes to flowers for weddings, you can never have too many.

When you speak about tropical countries, there is no doubt that they are rich in flora life. The weather explains; there is equal distribution of sunshine needed by chlorophyll for photosynthesis as well as rainfall that is important for vegetation to survive.

Where trees are abundant, flooding would not be a problem because rain will be seep through and be absorbed by the tree roots. Asia may not be highly industrialized compared to America and Europe, but it is rich in natural resources.

Without the winter season, the more flowering plants thrive in most of Asia. With at least 20, 000 flower species in Malaysia, flowers can be easily spotted in the soils of Sabah and Sarawak.

Such flowers are Touch Me Not, Yellow Allamanda, Bachelors Button, Rafflesia, Hibiscus, Ixora, Bougainvillea, Orchid, Fuchsia, Angsana, Frangipani, Lantana, Saga, Rhododendrons, Chrysanthemum, Violet Rose, Lobster Claws and Bird Of Paradise.

Touch Me Not is a Malaysian flower that is a thorny undershrub where stems are bristly. Native of Southern America, it is known to be a nuisance as a troublesome very thorny weed.

With pink flowers and slender stalks, it is very fascinating due to its sensitive leaves that fold together. It also droops when caressed. The locals call it as “malu- malu” which means shy.

Yellow Allamanda is a Malaysian flower that originated from a professor of history in Leyden on the latter part of the 18th century. It is commonly seen all year round.

Another ordinary from the America, it has very attractive flowers that bear the local identity of Bunga Akar Kuning and Akar Chempaka Hutan.

It is a woody scrambling shrub that has oblong leaves arranged in parallel pairs along the stem. With milky sap that gushes out as soon as the parts are broken, it propagates when the stem is cut.

Frangipani is mostly seen in the vineyards and called as Bunga Kubur among the locals. It is a tree that grows so robust and often branched at different times of the year. Reaching about 6 to 10 meters in height, it is very fragrant and comes in a variety of colors.

Lobster Claw is a Malaysian Flower that belongs to the Heliconiaceae family. Colloquially recognized as Sepit Ketam due to its close resemblance to a sea creature, this hails from Peru.

It blooms before onset of rain and appears like a red crab brachea that has yellow tips which cover small white flowers.

Bird of Paradise is a Malaysian Flower that is coined after the literal meaning of what it is fondly called. Also dubbed as Strelitzia, it is among the most beautiful flying fauna in the whole world. It has bright colored plumage as well as tails that are fan- like.

Every year, as the whole world celebrates mother’s day, what could possibly be the things you want to give to your mothers? There are lots of things for you to choose from when it comes to giving gifts for your mom on her day.

You can be as extravagant as you like, but isn’t a popular cliché: it’s the thought that counts, that you should think of in choosing for gifts?

No matter how materialistic the person you are giving gifts to, even the smallest things that carry the sweetest thought will be more treasured and valued.

The most common gift most children and husband give in the celebration of mother’s day is flowers. This is why prices for mother’s day flowers can be a little higher than usual days before the mother’s day.

Even though, mother’s day flowers will always be present and one of the best thoughtful gifts you can give in celebration of mother’s day. Time is also important. Spare some time to be with your mothers.

Don’t just send a dozen bouquets of mother’s day flowers! And if by any chance, there’s something that your mother has been whining about, and you can afford it, go ahead and give it to her. It would absolutely make her day.

However, the true essence of a mother’s day is not all about giving your mother the best gift you can think of. But rather, mother’s day is a celebration of the importance of a mother’s role in the family or in a child’s life in particular.

Children and husbands take advantage of this day to honor mothers and grandmothers for all that they do in raising children.

I may not be a mother yet, but I know how though being one, that is why I see to it that every mother’s day my mother receives mother’s day flowers and cards to let her know how much thankful we, my sisters and I, are to have a mother like her.

While you still have the time to do so, make the most of it to let your mother feel she’s been appreciated and that she had done a good job in bringing you up.

And if there’s one thing that can brighten up the faces and bring smiles to the lips of any mothers, it’s the gesture that says: I love you, Mom or Thank you for being my Mother.

It may sound so simple, but the question is how to clearly show your mother that that’s what you want to tell her.

You can try to be creative; make your gift as simple and meaningful as possible and mother’s day flowers with cards that express your gratitude and love for your mother should never be missing as they enough to make her happy.

Always remember, nothing compares sweet and thoughtful thoughts than expensive gifts.

Do not ever think that it is only the human beings that will experience a goodnight slumber because even those that are sprouting in the garden will.

It is actually the perfect time to catch tiny creatures such as fairies which begin their toil by polishing the stems and cleaning the leaves of the flora they are assigned to.

However, the moon flower is unique from the rest since it in the evening that it will showcase its beauty to the whole world. More than its fragrance, it is an annual vine that will not fail to capture every onlooker by its magnificence.

Climbing to a height that ranges from six to nine feet, its blossoms are as white as freshly, fallen snow. With its focal point that appears like star beams that sparkle upon its silk, moon flower has deep green heart- shaped foliage that is equally attractive.

Since they flourish after the sunset, they are not pollinated by insects such as bees and butterflies as compared to others. It is only the moths that fertilize them which is another aspect unique to them that makes it doubly interesting.

If you want your front yard to be a complete head turner then select one of its kinds that is exotic. For sure, it will be the topic of conversation among your neighbors when you invite them over for a dinner perhaps.

Not suitable for climates that are cold, moon flower will only thrive in regions that have warm zones. For those that are exceptionally humid, it will take off akin to a wild fire where the spectacular bundle will sprout out of control.

Lodge it nest to a trellis, it need not be short since as it was mentioned earlier, it will surely be lengthy. You can even turn an ordinary chainlink fence in a sweet aromatic private wall all throughout the night.

It can even be a great rendezvous with that special someone as you are covered with the stars on the dark sky. With those that have limited space, it can be accommodated in a barrel or tub that has wires inside for support.

Remember that it has very soft branches so it does not stand tall as compared to an iris for an example. A moon flower is classified under the annual type which is then tolerant of any kind of soil.

However, if it is exceptionally hard and lacks a lot of nutrients, mix it with organic matters first before burying the seeds. Since it has a thick outer shell, its germination is really slow especially when they are not given much attention.

Before it will be lodged outdoors, notch every single kernel with utmost care just right enough to permit moisture to adequately seep through the inner core.

Flowers never cease to amaze people with their natural beauty that every time we see a garden full of blooming flowers, we feel this sudden urge to pick one if not for the warning sign that does not allow picking of flowers.

But, were you interested to know the different parts of flower? Don’t just contend yourself with admiring beautiful blossoms, especially if you want to have your own flower garden or even if you already have one.

If there is a chance, take time to observe and take a closer look at a full-blown flower. You will notice that it is made up of different parts and each part performs an important job, just like the different parts of human body, in which each has different function.

Some of the most important parts of a flower are divided into male and female parts. To find out the different functions of the various parts of a flower, continue reading below.

The male parts include stamen, anther, and filament. Each part has its own work to do. Stamen is the male part of the flower and it is divided into two parts: anthers and filaments.

The anthers are the ones that produce and carry the pollen are usually on top of a long stalk resembling that of a fine hair, and are normally yellow in color. Filament, on the other hand, is held up by a thread-like part called a filament.

Pistil is the female part of the flower that consists of stigma, style, and ovary. Each pistil is made up of one to many rolled leaf-like structures. The stigma is one of the female parts of a flower.

It is the sticky bulb that is found in the center of the flowers. It is the part of the pistil of a flower that gathers and stores pollen grains from another flower, on which they germinate.

The style is another part which is the long stalk that sits on top of. The ovary is usually located at the bottom part of the flower that has seed inside and turns into fruit. It has ovules, where pollen grains travel through and fertilization takes place.

The other important parts of a flower are petal and sepals. Petals are the ones responsible for attracting the attention of pollinating insects with their attractive bright color and scents, where as sepals are the ones the look like little green leaves that protect the flower before it opens up to reveal its stunning beauty.

There is something you should also know that concerns the different parts of a flower. Did you know that flowers have two types?

Flowers can be perfect or imperfect. It means that perfect flowers have both male and female parts, while the imperfect ones have either all male or all female parts.

Imitations of flowers are widely used instead of real ones. Why? Well, who can’t blame some people who want to keep their favorite blossoms for years? Aside from maintenance reasons, artificial flowers need not to be watered and they can pass for real flowers too.

But, did you know that artificial flowers have few varieties? Yes, they do have! The different types of artificial flowers include plastic flowers, clay flowers, cloth flowers, and paper flowers.

Paper flowers are one of the most favorite crafts for kids and adults alike. They are easy to make and you can even use colored tissue papers to create one, even kids know how to do them. If you want to learn how make the, follow the simple steps below:

There are actually different ways to make the paper flower petals from a simple accordion-style fold to more detailed and intricate, lengthy designs.

Be patient and precise if you want to have a satisfactory result for your paper flowers.

The materials you need include:

White or colored tissue paper

Green chenille stems

Green construction or crepe paper

2 round lids, 1 with smaller size

white or clear glue

scissors

pencil

needle

You can now start making the flower layers with 4 large and 4 smaller circles after cutting out all the circles, pile them with smaller ones on top. Next, attach steam. Use needle to poke two holes side-by-side in the center of your circles. Push the stem all the way through and make sure the bottom ends of the stem are even and the circles are all the way up against the top. Now, twist the two stems together to create one solid stem.

Crinkle the flower petals starting with the top layer of the circle pile and crumple the layer inward to create a texture of a carnation flower. Do this to the rest of the paper. The more crumpled the paper the more defined the texture becomes.

Lastly, add leaves by folding green crepe paper in half and draw the leaves with the stem towards the fold so that when you cut out the leaves, you’ll have two-piece equal shapes of leaves with stems attached.

Dab some glue on the underside of the flower near the steam and lay the two-piece leaf in the underside of the flower. Also put some glue to the underside of the leaves to keep them from falling down and allow the flower to dry.

You can make variations to the petals of your paper flowers by adding a layer or more of different color to obtain an interesting result. Or, instead of circles, you can draw flower petal shapes if you want a more specific design for your paper flowers, such as roses or daisies. It’s so easy, isn’t it?

A family- owned nursery taking its domicile at Litchfield in Connecticut, White Flower Farm has been established since 1950 that offers a vast array of annuals, bulbs, perennials, shrubs and vines. They have been providing high- grade quality plants to florists and gardeners all throughout the United States.

Aside from growing their own right in their estate, they also import from other countries such as the tulips from Holland. They also remain actively connected in the development of The Litchfield Hills Greenprint, a long- term conservation plan in the state.

Working hand in hand with the Trust for Public Land and the Housatonic Valley Association, they expect to complete the mapping process that is already satellite- based.

White Flower Farm is credited to the Harris couple, William and Jane. It was in the 1930’s that they made a house out of a small barn, right where the current headquarters is situated. Both of them were writers, William for Fortune Magazine and Jane for The New York Times.

They envisioned having a “little place in the country” where they could bring their work as well as when having a vacation. It did not take long for them to realize that it was a major difficulty for them to continue their then present careers at Litchfield in Connecticut.

It was because environment was so attractive that they spent more time in beholding its beauty than with their respective works. Armed with time, intelligence and energy, William and Jane engaged into gardening with passion.

Little did they know, it was the advent of what is now called as White Flower Farm. The missionary zeal they have put in was ordinary to novice converts where they also exhausted their resources to advisors and suppliers.

Since they were both journalists who have embraced the characteristic of being skeptical, it immediately dawned on them that what they were doing was afterall an intellectual backwater with no interest in modern cultural practices.

They saw it as a market jungle that was hungry for new leadership which they bravely took responsibility. With humble beginnings, the Harris’ couple White Flower Farm grew to an extremely demanding business.

Advertising was not a big thing for William and Jane so there were only little efforts done on such aspect. Thanks to their early customers who were the very persons who enthusiastically promoted their thriving company.

Even if it was not totally making noise, they were consistent upon declaring policies of the proprietor to maintain the standards of excellence and always putting it on sale.

As compared to their other competitors, they were much traditional in their practice but even then, they found loyal clients whose tastes were anything but mainstream.

They regularly came back scouting for both new and old kind of blooms. Aside from that, they were fed with information necessary to succeed the flourishing of blossoms they have purchased.
