Treasure Hunters »

treasure huntingAre you interested in hunting for the Holy Grail? Or chasing the ends of the rainbow? Because if you do you are not the first in the long line of treasure hunters; some are legendary and some with names that have been long forgotten by time.

Treasure hunting more often relates to archeology if rather by coincidence. Since most prized treasure artifacts are those that have a tale behind it or somehow carrying a key to unlock a mystery, treasure hunts always include a significant study of archeology.

One such treasure hunting figure is Howard Carter, whose finds made him one of the immortal names of treasure hunters.

Welcome To Tutankhamen’s Tomb

Tutankhamen was an unknown pharaoh. Dying before reaching his prime (at the age of 9) Egyptian chronicles nowhere mentioned his name.

When Howard Carter discovered his tomb, not only his name was printed in most textbook, much of the ancient Egyptian life was revealed. Tutankhamen’s tomb was the best preserved and most intact pharaoh’s tomb ever found in the Valley of the Kings.

Carter’s greatest find was the gold funerary mask of the boy-king. Now it sits in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. It is by far the best treasure of Egypt.

Hunting The Dinosaur »

Have you ever wondered how the evolution ofNew Year began? It started on the ancient Chinese belief of a huge heavenly dragon that resides in the heavens. Every once in a while the dragon would try to devour the sun in its huge gaping maws.

And every time these primitive peasants will try to scare the dragon away from the sun. Does the event sound familiar? Yes, it is the solar eclipse. But how did the Chinese have the notion of the dragon?

The Truth About The Chinese Dragon

The world is in constant flux, and long ago the continents are still formed into one humongous land mass called the Pangaea. Such time was also the Triassic-Jurassic Era where dinosaurs ruled the earth.

Ranging from different sizes, these gigantic to diminutive creatures covered the entire Pangaea.

Then came the most intriguing mysteries in paleontology (next perhaps to the ‘Evolution of the Species’ particularly the man), which is the sudden mass extinction of dinosaurs which occurred around 65 million years. Now all that remain are the fossilized remains of dinosaurs.

China, having the biggest land mass of all the continents, contain more fossilized remains than any countries combined. Remains are discovered way back in the ancient world of superstitions, witchcraft and mysticism.

Hunting »

Hunting is beyond doubt the oldest form of food source. And hunting is the only one at the top of the technology tree of the evolution of man. It is the catalyst of the modernization of man. Read on why.

Even before the wheel, even before man mastered the use of plough he discovered how to hunt with a spear. And through the spear, he also fashioned materials that aid him with other task. Of the spear, soon the art of warfare developed.

He then understood that the spear can inflict harm to others, while others can do the same to him. The need for mutual group protection was sought and the early tribes were formed.

Tribes paved way for communal knowledge as skills, ideas, and inventions were pooled. Now tribes have distinct characteristics over each other. Culture began to take shape.

Principles and beliefs began its inception. Since no recording material were present, cave walls are exploited. This enabled recorded lore. Stories are now depicted as drawings and the old became living libraries for each of tribal lore.

Because of congregated effort, hunting now became easier. Hunters now share spoils with clansmen and families. Invented ultimately, the first wheel was fashioned out of stone.

Bear Hunting In Canada »

Bear Hunting in CanadaCanada has the densest population of bears throughout America. The most common species is the black bear, though Grizzlies are also widespread. These bears are so common throughout the continent, Canada and Alaska, that most outdoor sports that happen there is bear hunting.

Bear hunting in Canada was an extensive activity even in the last century though the reason for most hunts did differ. Bear hunting in Canada were reasons of vermin cleaning as bears (especially the black bears) are rampant even in the suburbs.

The black bears most especially are the specie types that do not shy away from humans. Cubs are often sighted playing with humans and human related objects like tires and cars.

Black bear cubs are even known to beg for food on car doors, especially on stopped cars on a woodland freeway.

Black bears are seen as harmless and cuddly, even the teddy bear existence was due to an alleged occasion when Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a young black bear because it was so cute and harmless.

Though naturally harmless, black bears are also far from the image it has portrayed for itself. Black bears are never cuddly. There have been thousands of mauling and deaths resulted by black bears, especially if the human is in between its intended food.

Black Bear Hunting »

Long considered a predator, black bears were shot sporadically as vermin, for food, and for trophies. In some areas black bears are being seen as either a vicious beast or an endless commodity. This was because their behavior has been little understood until recently.

Today, the specie is fast becoming a favorite game for most hunters especially on areas that swell with their numbers like New Jersey and Canada, especially when it comes to the fact that the emerging breed of black bears are adapting to the life in the suburbs.

Consequence is that the households sometimes awaken to the sound of rummaging bears in their property (black bears are strongly attracted to the scent of decay).

Worst cases these black bears invade homes and proceed to rummage around in search for food and attacks could happen if humans are in the way. Because of their swift growth especially on areas that are populated by humans, the ban on black bear hunting had been lifted.

Since black bears reproduces slowly so black bear hunting should be carefully controlled. Several states allowing bear hunting have guidelines to follow. Carefully study hunting regulations and know the things you can and can’t do.

Whitetail Deer Hunting »

Whitetail Deer HuntingThe Whitetail deer is the most plentiful and most widely scattered big game animal in North America.  In the Eastern half of Nebraska it is the most common species and is more profuse than mule deer even on some of the westernmost stream courses.

The Whitetail deer hunting is the most important big game in North America and exceeds an annual harvest of three hundred thousand in several states and about twenty-eight thousand in Nebraska since 1987.

The monetary impact provided by deer hunters on permits alone, amounted to $1.5 million in 1990 and about $1.2 million of this was attributed to whitetail deer hunting.

Whitetails have developed a keen sense of smell to help them avoid predation. They depend on scent but have also exceptional hearing and sight.  Whitetails are less vulnerable to hunting because of their behavior and habitat preference compared to mule deer.

To be successful in whitetail deer hunting, a hunter must choose a correct strategy to hunt. There are many strategies to whitetail deer hunting, but deer stand hunting is probably the most productive.

Whale Hunting »

How did whale hunting begin?  Was it because these feared mammals were a nuisance or was man perhaps threatened by these amazingly huge creatures?  For centuries, valuable materials to cultures all over the globe were provided by the “right” whales.

The ‘valuable materials’ referred to was Baleen and blubber, but nowadays substitutes to these expensive materials are consistently available, lower in cost, and no longer requires the killing of these majestic marine mammals.

Long before Europeans began whale hunting, American Indians called the Inuit and other native people devoured whale meat.

Whale meat supplied an important source of protein in places of the world with inadequate number of land animals available as food and in the northern regions that were affected by a growing season that was too short to sustain a base of agriculture.

The Inuits were doing whale hunting in kayaks with tools such as stone harpoons.  They brought in only a few whales each year and used every part of the animal for food, tools, fuel, and even building materials.

These small number of whales killed annually by the Inuits did not have that much impact on whale populations for more than a thousand years.  However, whale hunting became a significant sports with the influx of European whale hunters followed by New World whale hunters.
