History And Milestones

Founded within the depression decade, from 1929 the Long Beach Yacht Club has survived hostilities and continued on a colorful course for 77 years now.

Jonas Jones, Jr. early in 1929 led several gatherings of leading yachtsmen who are eager to establish a Long Beach Yacht Club. After finally working out on the details, Jonah prepared the articles, which were filed for incorporation on October 7, 1929.

Ratifying the articles was a breeze and a charter was granted to Long Beach Yacht Club. The club then extended invitations for charter membership to 100 yachtsmen.

It was a successful opening for the Long Beach Yacht Club even when the distribution of invitations happened to coincide with the downfall of the stock market in New York on October 29, 1929, which would set off the Great Depression.

Despite its crude beginnings, club members won in several yacht racing competitions like Dick Loynes, who was elected as the first Commodore of the club. But founding an elite yacht club wasn’t the sole purpose of the pioneers.

They were the founders of the world’s longest Power Cruise Race that ran for 447 miles from Long Beach to San Francisco, and promote it to the world.

Since that day and to this date, the Long Beach Yacht Club continues to encourage young sailors to this undertaking. To materialize that, the club has a vigorous Junior Sailing Program, which under club members’ volunteers brings young sailors to join in regattas against their peers.

The Long Beach Yacht Club also brings together swimming enthusiasts through its Junior Swim Team who compete with contenders from other yacht clubs and swimming organizations.

The junior yachtsmen were allowed to form their own organization they call the Corinthians and have a set of officers.

Sailing events

The LBYC will again be hosting their annual regatta called the “Long Beach Race Week 2007” that will happen on June 22nd to 24th. The LBYC has put up a special website for this event, which is http://www.lbrw.org where information can be obtained.

The LBYC is not confined to yacht regattas alone – they also host a number of events like Fishing Tournaments, Predicted Log Races, and Cruises.

The LBYC Foundation, meanwhile are engaging in yacht charters. Charter rates range from $325 to $500 per day for fleet or corporate charters.

Membership

Membership in the Long Beach Yacht Club is easier done than said. The official website of the LBYC features a membership tab where an online form is available.

Aspirants need to simply fill out the form and send the request. You may also call Long Beach Yacht Club on (562) 598-9401 (front desk) or (562) 493-5173 (Waterfront Office).

At an age where mass manufacturing is at its absolute form, it is a pleasant surprise to see several consumer items are still handled with the skill of hand of the expert. Like Sabre yachts.

Even yacht manufacturing has been invaded with mass manufacturing. And these mass manufactured products are way inferior, albeit generally cheaper, to exceptional ones. Like cigars.

Sabre range speaks of a perfect blend of the traditional and the state of the art. Into the business for over 35 years building perhaps 2,500 hulls, Sabre Yachts have become the pinnacle of success on small to medium size yachts, a category that has become popular due to a introduction of stronger, lighter and cheaper building materials.

Sabre yachts come in two different designs: Sailing Sabre Yachts or Motor Sabre Yachts. Both have equal intensive engineering and both are designed to meet the rigorous demands of yachting.

Sailing Sabre Yachts

With the need for speed even in the weakest wind, the sailing Sabre yacht generally has medium displacement. That is to provide good stability yet capable of tackling ocean cruises. Because of this, sailing Sabre yachts are popular choices for competitive sailing.

The designing phase of sailing Sabre yachts makes thorough use of CAD techniques in Stevens Institute. After which, having passed a strict routine of requirements, it gets forwarded to the tooling shop.

Many customers would say that sailing Sabre yachts are evolutionary, that is because the design philosophy Sabre yachts craft experts are always reflective of their work.

There are three designs for sailing Sabre yacht, they are the Sabre Spirit, the first a classic pedigree design that’s been testes right for ages; the Sabre 386 whose new look design belies the makers standard in beauty and performance; and Sabre 429 which had a build optimize for speed.

Motor Sabre Yachts

In retrospect to a winning trawler design, Sabre yachts are designed to meet the criteria of speed versus fuel efficiency. To judge how successful Sabre yachts have implemented this on their motor yacht design is to check personally their splendid motor Sabre yachts.

Sabre has seven motor yacht designs, with all of them having the fuel efficiency of trawlers and the speed of modern motor vessels. Most of the designs of the motor Sabre yachts are traditional, without excessive odd design concepts.

In fact, even their sailboats are designed in a traditional, warm hearting way. But looks are the only identical; performance is several times better with Sabre yachts.

When the need arise for gas to be stepped upon, motor Sabre yachts can display amazing speed that truly the benchmark aspect of the Sabre yacht brand.

Its conventional cruising speed while having average weight load and average weather conditions, any motor Sabre can maintain a 20 knot range with top speeds at 30 knots.

Of course, bigger Sabre cruisers can be faster due to the option of installing a more powerful engine.

It is in the mission of a company that sets its distinction among its rivals despite the competition and saturated market today. Manfred Kanter, the owner of Kanter yachts, has vividly set the mission of his yachts.

Since the end of his apprenticeship in Germany and the founding of Kanter yachts, Manfred Kanter avoided limiting the construction of his boats from the ordianry.

Instead, he made sure Kanter yachts can speak for itself in front of picky customers to supplying boats for the US Coast Guards.

“A Proper Yacht”

Manfred Kanter has a deep philosophy for yachts, which is vital in the design, concept, and construction of each yacht built by Kanter.

A proper yacht according to Manfred’s view is something that possesses an engine able to carry a craft to great speeds and outrun any storm, at the same time it should be sturdy enough to withstand even when caught in rough weather.

Despite these “rough” requisites, a proper yacht should be friendly to its guests in a sense that it can be spacious and provides the comfort of home even when bouncing off on waves.

Lastly, a proper yacht for Manfred is a yacht that dazzles in beauty and touches your soul while valuing your intellect.

Kanter yachts owe deep gratification to the skill of world-celebrated architects Dave Gerr, Dieter Empacher, Ron Holland, Chuck Paine, and Greg Marshall, the designers of Kanter yachts.

Kanter Yachts are available in three series, all of which are worlds apart from each other. The Sail category includes the Bougainvillaea series with the following line up: Bougainvillaea 54, Bougainvillaea 62, Bougainvillaea 64, and Bougainvillaea 65.

The Bougainvillaea (named after a beautiful tropical flower) series has the speed, beauty, and elegance, which are trademarks of Kanter yachts.

Another series in this category are the Kanter series comprising the Kanter 47, Kanter 53, Kanter 65, and Kanter 80. The Kanter series also includes power yachts as long as 57m in length, which are designed to withstand the rigors of deep blue waters.

These yachts are especially designed with aluminum hulls in place of the usual fiberglass.

The PassageMaker series are Kanter’s largest yachts with lengths ranging from 54m, 62m, and 74m. These Kanter yachts are designed for exceptional durability and great for family escapes in intercontinental cruises.

The yachts in the PassageMaker are the highly successful Chuck Paine-designed yachts constructed with aluminum alloy motor yachts. PassageMaker crafts are distinctive for their modest fuel consumption despite being sailed at her top speed.

Kanter yachts boasts of the highest quality yachts, which have been refined for elegance. Kanter yachts are custom-crafted, and engineered with an aluminum construction. – characteristics that answer to Kanter’s mission.

The original idea for yachts is truly simplistic: to harness the wind in a way that it provides infinite propulsion without using oars. And being the wind the only constituent needed for yachts to be effective, yachts took on a more recent form – land yachts.

Although there were evidences that show land yachts as far back in old pharaohic Egypt, these evidences were more of an independent discovery that doesn’t hold any influence to the land yachts that surfaced on the mid century.

But like the land yachts of old Egypt, the first land yacht to surface in Europe was built for leisure, an odd invention that took advantage of the inventor’s access to a wide prairie with constantly strong winds.

The first ever record of a land yacht was attributed to Simon Stevin of Bruges, Flanders. During this time, any apparatus that run on propulsion not relying on horses was enthusiastically pursued by many.

Around 1600, during the time when the more popular steamboat engine was also discovered, Simon Stevin invented the land yacht.

Stevin presented it to the Prince Maurice of Orange where the prince and his consort took the actual test of the machine on a beach between Scheveningen and Petten.

The carriage was propelled solely by the force of wind, was Simon Stevin’s huge success. It has the speed comparable or exceeding that of a carriage drawn by horses. The only problem of course was its dependency on the wind, which would become a problem on city streets.

Without obstructions to serve as windbreakers, yachts have become the best maritime vessel up to the century when combustion engines took over. But on land, especially on city streets where wind is not in its strongest, the population saw little use of Stevin’s invention.

Land yachts however became the greatest pastimes of country and rural areas, where wind blows unobstructed and unrestrained. On dune areas, on wide stretches of beach and sand, this becomes the best playground for the growing population of land yacht enthusiasts.

Even then are still sporadically widespread, only to those areas that fulfill the requirement of wide open space.

Parts of Europe (especially Belgium who are quick to honor the sport as its birthright), United States and Africa where vast plains and deserts become ideal land yachting spaces, land yacht racing are fast becoming local events.

Land yachts are rare practical examples of perpetually moving machines which is a vital principle in science that gets much attention due to its potentially useful properties.

Take a break from the everyday life and escape to exotic places like Marmaris and Fethiye. These towns are not just exotic by name, each treasures great unspoilt sceneries, which can be considered earth’s exuberant paradise.

Embrace the beauty of these locations on Marmaris to Fethiye yacht cruises. As an overview of what Marmaris to Fethiye yacht cruises offer to visitors, let’s have a little introduction about each town.

Lovely Marmaris

Marmaris is a town located at the rendezvous of the Mediterranean and Aegean Sea. A natural harbor by itself, it is considered one of the largest in the world and a busy center for yachting.

Marmaris has a warm climate and the busy harbor is enclosed with hills clad with pines. Enclosing the town is 65,000 hectares of pine forests that serves as a backdrop to the crystal-clear waters of the beaches, adds to its natural beauty.

The town is situated in the Mugla province, in the southwest of Turkey – and is one of the country’s holiday destinations.

Marmaris to Fethiye yacht cruises allow visitors to not only take a glimpse of this wondrous town, but it provides an extraordinary sailing experience.

Marmaris to Fethiye yacht cruises brings a nostalgic feeling by visiting castles built around 3,000B.C! Today this castle in Marmaris houses a museum and seven galleries – the largest of which has been converted into an exhibition hall, while the courtyard has several blossoms of seasonal flowers.

Breathtaking Fethiye

Marmaris to Fethiye yacht cruises lets visitors sail through history. Fethiye until today has preserved some of its ancient spectacles. Climatic temperature is one of the concerns when cruising but it seems not to be a problem in this town.

Although Fethiye has four seasons, winter in this part of the world culminates merely into heavy rains, and that means nine months of sunshine.

Participants of Marmaris to Fethiye yacht cruises will be witness to one of nature’s best gifts, saddling pine-clad mountain range embracing the bays.

This mountain range was known in antiquity as Kragos and Antikaragos, and today it stands more than 6,560 feet (2,000 meters) high.

This mountain range is what would greet visitors on any fine day. Fethiye is located at the foot of Mount Mendos, a member of this mountain range.

Visitors will have three options to go to Fethiye aside from the Marmaris to Fethiye yacht cruises. The town can be reached by air, land, or sea (on other vessels) cruises.

Air trips are serviced by The Turkish Airlines, while scheduled bus trips link Fethiye with other cities.

So how long is this racing yacht and family cruising vessel? The length of a Marten 49 yacht makes it perfectly manageable for varied uses.

Marten 49 yachts are only 15meters/49.2 feet long, the beam 4.17 meters, sailing displacement is 11,229kg, and the draught at keel is 2.1 meters, which can go up to a maximum of 3.7meters.

For over 20 years now, Steve Marten and Azzura Marine of Marten yachts have wanted to build the best racing yacht that is unparalleled in engineering and problem solving systems and machinery. The Marten 49 yacht is a realization of this dream.

History And Milestones

A combination of tradition, elegance, and sailing spells the New York Yacht Club. It’s founding in 1844 was no coincidence. Yachting in the United States traces its roots in the year 1800 to George Crowninshield of Salem Massachusetts.

Crowninshield was a scion of a wealthy mercantile family who owned ships that traded across European and American ports during those days.

His love for sailing culminated in the construction of a 22-ton sloop he named “Jefferson”, which he used to sail pleasurably along the coasts of New England.

The founders of the New York Yacht Club were John Cox Stevens and eight progressive men from New York.

They met on the afternoon of July 30, 1844 to test on a maiden voyage Stevens’ new yacht, “Gimrock”, which was berthed at the Battery, situated at the base of the Manhattan Island.

Stevens proposed of starting a club that would serve as an association of boat enthusiasts who are interested in racing off the harbor of New York and summer cruising across the cooler water of New England.

That historic meeting also elected Stevens as the first Commodore of the New York Yacht Club.

The New York Yacht Club found a home in its first clubhouse in 1845, located in Newport, Rhode Island. George M, Isdale, Jr., the Commodore of the club at that time, announced its completion to the members.

The clubhouse, erected on the club’s property in Harbour Cout, featured a gothic architecture according to the design made by Alexander Jackson Davis. The club members spent 23 years in this clubhouse prior to moving to its present clubhouse in Newport.

Since its founding, the New York Yacht Club had been hosting annual yacht racing events with the exception of the years 1861, 1898, the war years 1917-1920 and 1941-1945.

The first NYYC annual regatta on July 15, 1845 defied time and is now on its 163rd year. Its members also actively participates other regattas. In 1998, the New York Yacht Club celebrated its 100th anniversary of cruising to Maine.

Clubhouses

One of the assets that the New York Yacht Club can be proud of, aside from its sparkling accomplishments, is its first clubhouse that still stands today on Harbour Court.

Also in the same location is the club’s on-the-water clubhouse, which was formerly the summer home of former NYYC Commodore John Nicholas Brown (from 1952-1954).

The club members began occupying the house after purchasing it in 1987. The clubhouse on 44th Street, New York serves as the New York Yacht Club’s corporate headquarters.

The clubhouse in New Harbour has a library that houses 15,000 books and a Model Room that is high enough to accommodate 300 people.

The clubhouses feature Renaissance architecture that gives the impression of elegance and stability, portraying the staunch heritage of its founders.

Trawlers are the sea’s equivalent of pay loaders. They are the workhorses of the sea, with features suited to meet a wide degree of function. As such, trawlers become every working class vessel.

It has become fishing trawlers that have ample cargo and refrigeration unit to allow cold storage for the fishes caught; it has become tow ships that assist larger and clumsier ship into maneuvering smaller and more confined docking areas,

It has also become scientific exploration vessel, operating cheaply (trawlers can be driven by as few as two crews) but covering wider distances.

Due to newer equipment, faster engines, and the surmounting requirement for quality in marine goods, yachts are fast becoming a popular choice for boat type for trawlers.

They travel fast, have considerably better load capacity relevant to its size, and can function in high seas well than most boat types of its size. Because yachts are sometime built for speed of comfort, the trawler yacht designs tend to be variably different than conventional design yacht.

One more familiar trawler yacht design is for fishing. The trawler yacht design for fishing is made to recognize the immense drag when towing nets underwater. The trawler yacht design for fishing typically has stronger engine and several winches to pull considerable weight aboard.

And since the trawler yacht designs aren’t for the purpose of staying afloat for several weeks (days are the most), the trawler yacht design don’t come with refrigeration units other than ample space capable of holding fishes with chunks of ice until the trawler yacht arrives at port.

Here’s an example of trawler yacht design for the purpose of fishing.

Custom Shrimp Trawler

www.iboats.com/boats/marine–1/boats–10/power_boats–100/trawler_yachts–1060/57935.html

A first class working class trawler, this is perhaps the best pick in iboats.com so far for diesel trawler yachts. It comes with most equipment needed for fishing including a main winch, an electric trynet winch, stainless steel bridles and aluminum trawl doors, 10 nets, and a Furuno Fish Finder.

It has a fish hold of approximately 22 x 20 x 52 area and a fiber glass work area.

The trawler yacht design has also become a wide appeal in terms of cruising yachts. Because they have big space for a small boat body, they afford more quarters for human function.

They run inexpensively; most trawler yacht design run on diesel, a cheaper fuel that has higher energy per liter output than gasoline.

Because of the large hull space, fuel efficiency, deep sea capability, it becomes the best private cruising boats that affords several days at sea and covering more distance. This baby is one superb trawler yacht design excellent for cruising.

When you are entirely new to the cruising business, there are plenty of yacht brokers who are ever ready to provide you with more than a dose of information you need.

Since there are a lot of them, you might get yourself baffled who to specifically turn to.

Now if you are looking for one, there are certain specifications you have to keep in mind that will be of help in your search. According to Fraser Worldwide, a trusted company in the boating industry, the following should be present:

Reputation

When speaking of such, it means that yacht brokers are regarded with esteem by the colleagues in the cruising business. The person has to have an established profile who knows an international chain of professionals that will allow him or her to get hold of facts that cannot be immediately obtained by the public.

He or she also has to have the capability to recommend the finest team to be on board. When asked with questions, the answers must have depth of knowledge where he or she can create excellent comparisons between one vessel to another.

Experience

Longevity matters big time when referring to yacht brokers because the boating industry has already existed for how many decades.

When the person has remained for years in such field of profession, there is that indication where he or she has been exposed to diversity of vessels as well as with the vast changes that took place.

With that fact given, you are assured that whom you are consulting is competent enough to supply you with the correct replies.

Personality

As what was mentioned earlier, there are a number of yacht brokers where more often than not, you will also be encountering different characters.

There are those who are very formal when conducting appointments to the point where you can be intimidated with his or her presence while there are also those who are very casual when discussing matters to an extent where you nonchalantly exchange conversations.

Whichever of the two, the necessary thing is that you are comfortable in the way you deal with the person because if you are not, it might be the hindrance for you to receive the aspects you have to be acquainted with.

As the boating industry continues to progress, the function of yacht brokers are all the more deemed vital. As you continue on with your hunt, simply think of the three considerations: reputation, experience and personality.

At the time of conception, a yacht was employed by the Dutch navies when they chased after their adversaries especially the pirates around the surrounding waters of the Low Countries.By the period Charles II of England selected the mode of transportation traveling from Britain to Holland, when he was in the mood for a vacation, the vessel was transformed to convey notable personalities. However at this juncture, this type of boat was dominantly utilized for cruising and racing.

Cruising

The most typical among private usage is a yacht for cruising ranging from 23 feet to 46 feet. This mode of transportation can have an intricate design since builders always tend to look into the equilibrium between four design factors namely: comfort on- board, spacious interior, compliant handling and light- wind performance.

However, since there are a lot of manufacturers all over the world, giving a single description of the vessel is seemingly inadequate.

It has been said that plenty of individuals choose a cruising yacht that has a teardrop- platform hull with a flat bottom and deep keel which provides great floating stability.

The most common kind is the Bermudan Sloop primarily chosen by families when they take a breather on an island.

This mode of transportation usually has several rooms below the deck which is composed of three double- berth cabins and one single huge saloon that has areas for seating, navigation and galley.

Racing

Trying to lessen the wetted exterior by maintaining the hull light and bulb keel, a yacht for racing is designed as such in order to support a long mast with a huge expanse for sailing.

Contemporary styles have beams that are wide with a flat bottom giving sturdy buoyancy. This mode of transportation has a speed of up to 40 mph which can be obtained when the weather is good. Since this vessel is really for contest, convenience of the crew is sacrificed just to get to the finish line first place.

A racing yacht is not really massive in size; it can only accommodate a maximum of fifteen people. When you compare this mode of transportation to the other class, you can really tell that this is not intended for pleasure.

It is not even recommended for those who easily get sea sick because the vessel is constructed to brave the raging waves on the open seas. A lot of these can be spotted on the ocean of the Caribbean which sponsors an annual sporting event attracting tourists in a global scale.

So, what yacht would you probably prefer, for cruising or for racing?
