Like many other forms of exercise, you would need proper apparel for running. Many people are content using running shoes as their only gear.
However, the shoes only form a part of the gear. Proper running apparel will make you feel snug and cozy when exercising.

Without a good pair of running shoes, you are prone to lower back and leg pain. You might even sprain your feet if you don’t wear running shoes or if your running shoes do not fit your feet well.
Because it is an important piece of running apparel, it would be a good idea to visit a local specialty running store for the shoes. In those stores, avid runners and staff will advise you on what shoes will be right for you.
The clothes you will wear also form part of your running apparel. They keep you warm and comfortable. Furthermore, they absorb sweat from your body when you run.

Many people run or jog as a way of exercising and having fun at the same time.
In this light, manufacturers have made special Running Gear to make running both a healthful and enjoyable exercise.
First on the list of running gear are hydration systems similar to those used by soldiers. A hydration system holds water or energy fluid so that runners can replenish their lost moisture.
The bladder, or the part where the water or fluid is stored, is clipped on the belt or strapped at the back. Attached to the bladder is a small hose which ends up in a special nozzle.
The runner sips the water through the nozzle, eliminating the need of carrying a water bottle. Music players are another miscellaneous running gear. Runners love listening to their favorite songs while running.
Presently, many people opt for the mp3 player or the iPod. They are smaller but can hold more songs than the old portable cassette or CD players. Because of their small size, they can be attached to the arm through the use of a special strap.

Running is a good exercise. But it is more than that. Running is an activity that everyone can have join for fun, for personal challenge and even for competition.
To accommodate these activities, many groups and companies organize running events that incorporate exercise, fun and games.
One of the most common running events is the marathon. A marathon is a running event that spans 42.195 kilometers. Modern marathons are usually tied up with a special event or a charity.
The marathon is the longest run that can be attempted. In fact, many runners consider completing a marathon one of the most difficult tasks that one can achieve.
To train themselves for this running event, marathon runners usually set a goal to reach a maximum of 32 kilometers in their longest weekly run.
Experienced marathon runners can even cover distances over 100 miles in their weekly practice. However, this increases the risk of incurring a training injury.
Another event is the 1,500 meter dash. This running event is part of a series of event called a decathlon. For the 1,500 meter dash, the runners go around a track in a stadium or oval. It takes 3 ¾ laps to finish this running event with each lap averaging 55 seconds.

Part of a person’s running gear is his upper and lower clothes. Most runners wear the basic gear of cotton shirts and pants.
While these clothes are sufficient, many experienced runners are now switching to advanced technical running apparel.
Technical running apparel can be considered as the running clothes of the future. They are made of fabric that outperforms all cotton shirts or apparel.
What does that mean? Cotton clothing absorbs sweat from your body when you exercise. While this is superior to poly-cotton shirts, cotton stays wet when enough sweat is absorbed.
This makes the shirt heavy. In many cases, you might feel cold and miserable even on a hot day because the moisture is trapped in the cotton fabric.
On the other hand, technical running apparel is made of fabrics designed to pull sweat away from your body. Because of this property, technical running apparel dries much faster than cotton clothing.
The clothing stays relatively dry, making you feel comfy and snug. If you are one of those people who are into run-and-walk programs, this kind of apparel is especially useful. The fabric removes sweat during your running portion so you feel warm during your walk sessions.

Running is a good exercise. It can strengthen your respiratory system and lower body. It also increases your endurance and can control weight.
However, just like any other type of exercise, you need to practice techniques in running. Quite often, there are runners who injure themselves because they do not practice proper techniques.
Some common tricks on running without having to risk injury are as follows:
Before running, make sure you warm up first. Stretch your muscles and do light, stationary exercises for 5 to 10 minutes.
Warm-up exercises prepare and relax your muscles for more strenuous activities. Failure to warm up makes you more prone to injuries.
You also need to do proper breathing. Inhale and exhale deeply. This will allow you to get all the oxygen to your lungs. If you breathe shallow, not enough oxygen will go into your system.
This will cause hyperventilation in many cases. To catch your breath, slow down your running phase so it would be easier for you.
Now, it is time for you to do the actual running. Jog in place for a few seconds. When you run, do it so your feet will land on their heels. If your step lands on your toes or the flat of your feet, it will cause stress on your feet.

The sport of running encompasses a lot of events, kinds and varieties.
One of these varieties is called road running. Road running is running on a course that is measured over a known road or street. This is not to be confused with track running which involves going around a specially made track inside a sports stadium.
This is also different from cross country running wherein runners travel across rugged terrain or country roads. Road running events usually have a range of 5 kilometers or more.
During these events, race courses for road running are typically held on major city or town streets. Most of the courses are certified and has been measured to an accuracy of 0.1 feet.
But road running does not necessarily mean that the runners run on a straight, level road. Indeed, to add to the challenge, the road may pass through hills, sharp bends, a variety of surfaces and levels. Even the weather can be added as an element of challenge.
Most often, road running involves a lot of runners and even wheelchair bound people participating in the event. Marathons and half marathons are perfect examples of these road running events.
