Like basketball, soccer players that are on the game field have their own designated positions. In the game of soccer there are eleven designated soccer positions on each team in the playing field.
A single soccer team on the playing field has one goalie or goalkeeper and ten outfielders to play a variety of defensive, attacking and midfield positions.
Each of these soccer positions has their own role and area of operation and certain set of skills are required in each of these soccer positions.
Goalkeeper or Goalie
The goalkeeper’s major responsibility is to not let the opposing team score by defending the goal. The goalkeeper is the only player in the field allowed to handle the ball with their hands.
On the other hand, the goalkeeper is only restricted to a particular area near the goal that the goalkeeper is defending.
Defensive Positions or Defenders
Defenders are the players that are behind the midfielders. The main responsibilities of players designated in these soccer positions are to provide defensive support to the goalie and prevent the opposing team from scoring. Defenders usually stay on their side of the field.

Here I am talking about the predominant cultures that have some form of soccer history.
Although the modern day game of soccer originated in Britain, records show that the games that involve the kicking of a ball have been around for a long time.
No one really knows where the game soccer began. Historians say that it is impossible to precisely pinpoint where and when soccer started. Although it is assumed that there are types of ball game that have been played in some parts of the world for over 3000 years.
There are lots of older versions of the game soccer. Here are some of the predominant cultures that have some form of soccer history.
Egyptian Soccer History
Little has been documented on Egyptian soccer history but there was a version of a type of ball game that was played by young Egyptian women during the reign of Baqet III. Written on his tomb are images of this kind of sport.
On the other hand, experts are flabbergasted how this kind of game was played or if their kind of ball game has affected the outcome of today’s game of soccer because no writings or documents have been found on how the game was played.

For a sport this great, it is amazing to watch how great goals are created soccer goal. Fluke, accidental, divine intervention, or just plain old amazing skill - these elements create a great goal.Goals so great that these moments are often what are left after the artist had faded away. These superb moments caught on video will always be remembered in the years to come.
The Hand of God
Probably the most notorious among the soccer goals was when the divine intervened on behalf of the player, as what Diego Maradona of Argentina claimed. Maradona is one of the greatest talents soccer has ever seen and the wiliest.
That’s why when he found that he was too short for the header; he punched the ball and later claimed it was the “Hand of God” describing it as “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God,” implying that God was eventually responsible for the soccer goal because the referee had missed the handball offense.
Hand of God video:

Though the Hand of God was a subject of much controversy, his second was one of the best soccer goals of all time.

Soccer games are played with two teams. On each team, there are eleven players allowed on the soccer field during game play. The objective of the game is to score as many points as possible through the opposing team’s defenses by using a single round ball called “football”.
In every soccer game, be it recreational or competitive, has one primary rule: the goalkeeper alone can hold or touch the soccer ball during game plays.
Other players on the field are only allowed to hold the soccer ball during “throw in” restart. The other players on the field may use any part of their bodies except their hands during game plays.
In most soccer games, the players will attempt to score through the opposing teams’ goal by passing the soccer ball from one teammate to another or by taking shots at the goal, which is being guarded by the opposing team’s goalkeeper.
At the same time the opposing team will try to take control of the soccer ball by means of interception of a pass or by tackling the opposing team’s player who has control of the ball. However, any harsh physical contact towards another player is not allowed.
