Exploring The Art Of Campfire Cooking
Posted under Cooking, HOME & FURNISHINGS on Nov 6, 2007
Campfire cooking has long been a traditional way to cook in the great outdoors without much hassle. Bringing a few steaks or burgers on a camping trip has long been a storied tradition for many families as they fire up the campfire and start grilling and cooking their food over the open flame.
Today’s camping is really no different and while some rely on the camp stove or other more modern implements, campfire cooking is still as popular as ever and is making incredible leaps and bounds in terms of how people cook and what people cook over the campfire.
Campfire cooking is as old-fashioned as it gets and probably began as soon as our earliest ancestors realized that food could taste good when it was cooked and heated. Holding it over flame became the logical thing to do, and campfire cooking was born soon after that.
There was a lengthy period of trial and error, most likely, with early man figuring out exactly what worked over a campfire and what didn’t.
From this, we’ve evolved and taken campfire cooking to a whole new level with the cooking of steaks, steaming of vegetables, and the boiling of water for potatoes. We cook entire meals over the flame.
The Campfire Gourmet
From this, we have deciphered that just about anything can be made and created in the great outdoors in terms of food. We make food that gourmet chefs would drool over with just a campfire and some cooking utensils, all done out in the classiness of the great outdoors.
Now, filet mignon and stuffed potatoes are finding their way on to campgrounds and people learn how to cook better and how to good better foods. We steam vegetables with camping implements and are learning how to perfectly char meats to the point they become deliciously irresistible.
Yes, campfire cooking has come a long way. We even integrate out knowledge of the goodness of flame and food into the dessert category, preparing delicious cherries jubilee and other fine desserts with the flames burning away over the food preparation process.
No longer is campfire cooking limited to seasoned vets with no other means of making food. The campfire gourmet is certainly here to stay and ready to turn out fancy and fine dining dishes with a little spark, some kindling, and some patience in the great outdoors.
