Is Your Rock Climbing Rope Durable?

Rock Climbing RopeThe only thing that holds a rock climber’s life is indeed his rope. It’s barely his sole lifeline. To some seasoned rock climbers, however, it seems like they’re never satisfied with ropeless free rock climbing.

But even with ropes and other safety equipment, rock climbing is still a risky sport. And this is why there should be close attention needed for rock climbing rope.

The first thing that comes into your mind about rock climbing rope is its length. Few decades before, a standard length by many rock climbers was 150 feet. After some time experts raised the standards and the rope length used for rock climbing was increased to 165 feet.

Then it went up to 197 feet and 230 feet. Of course, the length of the rope depends on the nature and necessity of your rock climb. For most climbers, the most preferable is 165 feet.

Lengthier ropes will only drag your activity, carrying them is also burdensome. Sometimes though, it helps if you purchase longer rock climbing ropes. Overtime, you can cut the ends of the rope that are maybe worn out due to wear and tear.

The modern climbing rope is made of highly durable synthetic material so you definitely don’t have to worry a lot of breaking and falling. It’s a priority that any rock climber considers.

Today’s rock climbing rope, though, can endure so much stress brought about by constant use. Stretching puts so much strain on climbing ropes but it is counteracted with the rope’s special construction reducing the chances of breakage. A particular covering in climbing ropes also helps strengthen it.

Rock climbing ropes also have high flexibility, so in cases of accidental slips, hanging tight by the rope lessens the unpleasant force of gravity by softening the fall.

Constant wear and tear may lead to the degrading performance of rock climbing ropes, although there were lesser incidents connected to breaking ropes.

The only enemies of the rock climbing rope are those spiky and toothed edges of the Rockies. That is why rock climbers should posses both strength and mental focus.

Also go for a rock climbing rope that has water repelling properties. Ordinary ropes without such properties, will allow water, during rain, to decrease its durability. Water resistant climbing ropes are great for ice climbing. But don’t be surprised though, as this type of rope can be a bit more costly.

High quality rock climbing ropes are only available in certified and authorized dealers of rock climbing equipment. Beware of low quality products. Don’t settle anything less for your rock climbing equipment, get only the best and the most durable rope.
