Posted under Bird Watching, RECREATION on Apr 23, 2008
Did you know that there are some bird species that will require some type of birdseed or thrive on certain plants? There are many things you can add to your landscape to get the birds into your yard.
The landscaping that you have may bring in certain birds like hummingbirds or robins.
Hummingbirds are attracted to bright colors. If it is hummingbirds you would like to have in your yard then you will want to have red, pink, orange, and other brightly colored flowers. They also like to have trumpet vines or some type of tubular flowered plants because they are fruitful to them.
You will also want to think about getting a hummingbird feeder and then filling it with sugar water.
Do short cut yards attract the birds?
You will also want to add thistle if it is not just hummingbirds you will want in your yard (landscape), but it will also be nice to have goldfinches around as well. If you keep your yard cut short, you will also be able to attract robins. The reason why the birds are attracted to a short cut yard is that the bugs and worms will appear easier to the bird’s eye.
Once you have the birds attracted to your yard, you will want to keep them by adding a bird feeder. Make sure that you also enjoy the new animals so that you can bird watch from the comfort of your own home and backyard. You will also love the birds hanging around and hearing the sounds.
Once you learn how to find that birds, then you want to learn about the surprising birds that end up showing up. You may end up attracting more than just what you are aiming for.
If you do change your landscape to better your bird watching experience, you will then want to learn about the new birds that you are attracting. If you notice a new type of bird coming around you will want to write a description of the bird and then go online and research to find out where the bird comes from and if there is anything special or unique about this particular bird.
When it comes to attracting birds to your home (or landscape) keep in mind that you may not want to attract some of the louder and more annoying birds. You will want to maybe avoid blue jays, because they are loud, but they are wonderful creatures. There are some birds you just would like to see no matter how annoying they are. It all depends on why type of bird watching you plan on doing.
