Earth-Like Features That Have Been Seen On Mars!
Posted under Pluto on Oct 19, 2009
Evidence suggests that life exists on other planets. In fact, many earth-like features have been seen on Mars.
Here are some earth-like features that have been seen on mars:
Some of the materials that have been seen on mars include the possible presence of water, sand, and various minerals.
In addition, some of the same particles that exist in the earth’s atmosphere also exist on Mars. This is further explained in the next few paragraphs.
One of the latest discoveries of the planet Mars is that of a crater filled with ice deposits. Furthermore, it has been known for quite some time that large deposits of carbon dioxide are present on Mars as well. Polar ice caps are also known to contain frozen water in them as well, which are largely exposed along with dust during the summer season of Mars.
Various substances are found on Mars are ones that consist of similar properties to those that are located on Earth. For instance, methane, formaldehyde, ammonia, and carbon dioxide have been found on Mars. Also, Nitrogen, Argon, Oxygen (aside from the CO2), Nitric Oxide, Neon, as well as Krypton, Xenon, and Ozone are found on Mars.
The landscape formationsof Mars are thought of as to be very similar to those of earth as well. For instance, various mountains and canyons have been spotted on Mars. In fact, one source has documented that Mars has the largest mountain on it of the entire solar system, which includes all the planets.
There is thought to have been volcanic activity on Mars as well, and the evidence of lava. Platonic movement has been known to take place on this planet as well.
Various animals that have similar qualities to those on earth have believed to be found on Mars as well. For instance, some studies have documented that spiders have been found on this planet. In addition, microscopic life forms have been known to be present on this planet.
The planet of Mars also experiences similar climatic happenings as well. For instance, winds, frosts, and clouds (cirrus type) form on this planet. This planet is thought to have experienced both light and darkness as well, and has a sky.
The other aspect of Mars that is very similar to that of Earth is the fact that different seasons take place on this planet. The seasons take place at different times and in different ways than on Earth, but they still take place. For sure a summer and a winter take place on this planet. This planet also rotates on an axis, and contains moons, which are located nearby this planet.
Studies that have been done on Mars:
Quite a few studies have been done on Mars throughout the years. The first was done in the year 1964. The first study was a fly-by mission conducted by NASA by way of the Mariner 4.The Soviet Union also has landed two objects called Mars 2 and Mars 3 from the Mars Probe Program in 1971. The Soviet units landed and contact was lost after a few seconds.
In 1975, NASA had launched two orbiters with landers attached during the Vikings Program. Vikings 1 touched down for six years and Vikings 2 touched down for three years. During the Vikings Program the first color pictures were taking of the planet Mars.
In 1988, the Soviet Union launched Phobos probes 1 and 2. These were sent for the purpose of studying both Mars and its two moons. Phobos lost contact on the way to Mars, and Phobos 2 did successfully photograph Mars. However, the operation of releasing two landers on Phobo’s surface failed.
More current missions have taken place as well. NASA’s Mars Observer failed in 1992, but the Mars Global Surveyor in 1996 was successful, and the primary mapping mission was completed in 2001. About a month after the Surveyor NASA also launched the Mars Pathfinder. This mission was a big success as well, and this probe landed in the Are Vallis region.
Quite a few photos were returned from Mars just recently and the Surveyor mission is expected to last until at least 2008. Other successful missions have taken place as well, which can be read about in quite a few places.
