What Are Speed Braces?

Known throughout the dental industry as the “self-litigating” braces, the speed braces are basically made of metals but set ligatures as not an important part of the construction.

It is not consists of elastic rubber bands which support the wires into the brackets as to that of the traditional metal braces.  So instead of the rubber bands, they employ a kind of trap door which serves as the arch wire guards, keeping them in place.

The speed braces are so-called for the reason that they are designed to be worn for a short period of time.  Yes, the treatment may only last for about nearly in half of that required for the metal brace treatment.

One main factor that makes this treatment possible is that the trap doors which hold the arch wires of the braces in place are crafted to gather energy in a miniaturized and refined brace which is spring loaded so for it to react more fast and efficient to the administered treatment.

Aside from that, the presence of trap doors brings a lesser degree of friction to the place between the brackets and the wire, but the friction only occurs to the area where crooked teeth parts are present.

There are a number of types of speed braces.  One of the most popular is the Damon Brackets which is but designed and manufactured by a number of companies today.

This type features trap doors to secure the wires in the right place by using the self-litigating technique.  With this method, the wires of the Damon Brackets are highly considered as strong, incapable of sliding back and forth.

Another notable type of speed braces is the In-Ovation braces.  These products are molded by a company known by the name GAC, and are highly identified for their twin brackets which are made of entirely metal.

They also feature a built in clip to keep the brace in place. The clip also works to keep pressures into the teeth, then leading to fast and directed correction results.

If you’ve heard about the SmartClips, then you’ve known the third type of speed braces.  This form was first developed by 3M Company, but came out as one unique type of speed braces.

It is unique in a sense that it does not feature a separate clip.  Instead, the arch wires are kept in place by the use of custom-made clips which are installed into the brackets.

Finally, there is the tooth-colored speed braces made by Ultradent Company.  The main factor that makes this product hot is its polycrystalline parts which boast a bunch of high glass fiber.  And, instead of trap doors, this form employs a hinged door built on its arch wire.

The speed braces are not yet available anywhere in the world today.  It is for this reason basically that speed braces are considered as one of the latest developments on the dental market.
