When mountain biking came into the scene in the world of sports, nobody expected that such sport would develop into something more adventurous that it is now labeled as an extreme sport.
Mountain biking has more than one discipline to master, and each type has a following of its own. All the variations in mountain are all known for their adrenalin-rush stunts that continuously attract more people thus making mountain biking one of the most popular sports of all time.
It is true that mountain biking has many types of disciplines and the one that can make anyone feel like riding a humungous roller coaster ride is the downhill mountain biking.
There is no doubt that just the thought of riding a bicycle and careening down from the mountain is truly a wonderful experience how much more excitement anyone can get when downhill mountain biking is actually done.
Taking cue from the name alone, downhill mountain biking literally translates to riding a bicycle going down hill. This variation of mountain biking is also known as DH among mountain biking junkies.
This type of mountain biking should not be confused to the other kind— the cross-country, which is more oriented to racing though it has a downhill aspect.
Mountain bikes are specifically engineered for downhill mountain biking are generally equipped with a suspension for both the rear and the front.
The tube framing of the bikes are usually heavier than those used in other mountain biking variants. Downhill mountain bikes usually take a weight from 40 lbs to 50 lbs.
From the name alone, bikes for downhill mountain biking are not used for uphill climb, pedaling them uphill will be futile. For downhill mountain bikers to start with their ride, they have to be lifted by ski lifts that will ferry them from the top of the hill.
The trail that downhill mountain bikers pursue is generally demanding physically. They can be very dangerous too; hence a great amount of precaution is necessary.
The stunts include up to 40ft large jumps, dropping to a distance of 10 feet or more, and the path is usually step and very rough all throughout the stretch. But for most of the mountain bikers in this sport would crave for more challenges and risks.
Thus the demand and the danger are relatively unimportant. Nevertheless, bikers still don their gear in full Monty that includes the helmet, kneepads, goggles, and the body suit.
Today, downhill mountain bikers can now choose from the wide array of locations to experience an exciting downhill mountain biking. The most satisfied riders are perhaps those who have taken the risks. After all, this type of mountainbiking is about risk taking.
