Men’s Lacrosse Rules

Lacrosse is a sport played by a team of ten players using a lacrosse stick. A lacrosse team is composed of three midfielders, three attack men, three defensemen and a goalie.

The game’s objective is to score by shooting the ball into the opponent’s goal and the team with the most score will win the game.

There are several lacrosse rules depending on the level of the game. For Collegiate level, the duration of the game is 60 minutes with four 15-minute quarters.

For high school level, the duration of the game is 48 minutes with four 12-minute quarters. For young lacrosse players, the game lasts for only 32 minutes with four 8-minute quarters.

Both teams are given two-minute breaks in between the first and the second quarters and then between the third and the fourth quarters with the halftime break lasting for ten minutes.

According to lacrosse rules, both teams will change sides of the field between periods with two timeouts in each half. The game begins with a coin toss and the team who wins in the toss gets the chance to pick the end of the field that they want to defend first.

The lacrosse game begins with a face-off by placing the ball in between the lacrosse sticks of two players. The two players will try to gain possession of the ball after the whistle of the referee. Other players can also participate in gaining possession of the ball.

Lacrosse rules allow a lacrosse player to get the ball from an opponent by dislodging it using the stick. This strategy is called a stick check.

This method is actually used to get the ball from the opponent and involves slapping the stick as well as the gloved hands of the opponent with the ball.

A player can also stick check an opponent if the lose ball is within five yards or in the air. However, lacrosse rules do not allow hard body checking during a loose ball.

If the ball or if the player who possesses the ball goes out of bounds, the other team will be given ball possession. If in case the ball went out of bounds after an unsuccessful shot, the player nearest to the ball after it went out will be given possession.

Lacrosse rules do not allow an attacking player to go close to the goal, but an attacking player is allowed to reach in using the stick to retrieve the loose ball.

There are six officials present in every lacrosse game. The officials are the umpire, referee, field judge, bench official, timekeeper and the scorer.
