Motocross racing is one of the most popular motor sport events these days. That is because it is in these events that we see riders perform death defying stunts and aerial acrobatics.
Because of these factors, numerous motocross racing events have popped up not just in the United States, but all over the world.
Of the numerous motocross racing events worldwide, the most prestigious and dominant motocross racing events are F.I.M.’s (The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) Grand Prixs and A.M.A.’s (The American Motorcyclist Association) American National Championship.
The “Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme” (FIM) is the ruling organization of motor sport racing. FIM is composed of ninety national organization of motorcyclist. These organizations are divided into six regional continental associations.
FIM’s headquarters is located in Mies, Switzerland. FIM’s Grand Prixs are primarily held all throughout Europe, although there are some flyaway rounds held in other places or countries other than Europe.
The format of the motocross racing events of FIM’s are similar to that of AMA’s, however, the World Series of FIM are much longer (usually is composed of 16 or more series).
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is an organization based in the United States that organize and sponsors numerous motocross racing events. AMA is considered as the largest organization among the motorsport world.
AMA organizes more than 80 professional motorsport events and more than 4,000 motorsport events for amateurs. The said organization is responsible for maintaining the “Motorcycle Hall of Fame”.
Another variation of motocross event that is rapidly gaining attention is the freestyle motocross. Although this type of motocross event does not focus on speed or race, it is rather exciting and fun to watch.
That is because this type of motocross event focuses on the acrobatic ability and high leaping, death defying stunts of its participants. Freestyle motocross or FMX is an offshoot of motocross racing.
FMX participants basically use the same protective gear as a motocross rider would use. Most FMX riders wear additional protective gears such as elbow and knee pads for additional protection.
The bikes that are used on this type of motocross event are modified for added performance. Numerous supplemental parts are installed on the bike to lower its weight, giving more height in its leap.
Some FMX riders even trim the foam of their seats in order to have wider range of movement. Motocross racing is fun and exciting event to watch. That is why motocross racing is one of the most popular motorsports of today.
